Agustín Lucho Pozo Gálvez The Solemn, 2020

Oil on canvas 20.5”x18.75”

Agustín Lucho Pozo Gálvez makes drawings and paintings that are dense, funny, complicated, and mysterious.  He constructs his work by building layers of colors and images, some from graffiti, some from portraiture, some deeply serious, some more whimsical. Gálvez takes ideas from his experiences and memories and his extensive knowledge of art history.

Agustin moved to the United States from Chile in 1968. He received his MFA in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1986. He has had solo exhibitions in Norway, Mexico, Japan and the US and has taught painting and drawing at the University of California, Berkley, the College of Marin in Kentfield, CA, and the San Francisco Art Institute. Since beginning a fellowship at the Roswell Artist- in Residency Program in 2019, he has continued to live and work in Roswell.
